FAQs

PRINCE2® (Projects IN Controlled Environments) is a process-based methodology for effective project management, used and recognised all over the world. From PRINCE2 Foundation to PRINCE2 Practitioner, courses provide professionals with the fundamental skills necessary to become a successful project manager. It can be scaled and tailored to each project you undertake.

The development of PRINCE2 was driven by end-user feedback from users, project management specialists, and a review panel comprising 150 public and private sector organisations. This has resulted in a generic best practice tool which is flexible enough to be tailored to your organisation and used successfully for all types of projects.

Because PRINCE2 provides greater control of resources and the ability to manage business and project risk more effectively, its appeal extends far beyond project management specialists to directors and executive board members.

PRINCE2 uses stages and tolerances as its major elements of control. Tolerances allow for a management-by-exception approach, i.e., only involving the project board when decisions need to be made because the project tolerances have been exceeded. Stages are used to keep the project management appropriately supervised and documented for those directly involved, such as project board members and the project manager. The essential components of each stage of the project are described from start to finish.

Organisations can benefit significantly from adopting PRINCE2 (Projects IN Controlled Environments, version 2) training for several strategic, operational, and cultural reasons. Here's why PRINCE2 training is a wise investment:

  1. Alignment with Government Standards - PRINCE2 is often the preferred project management method for government and crown agencies in ANZ. Professionals widely recognise it in procurement and tender processes. Its emphasis on roles, responsibilities, and governance aligns well with the public sector's need for transparency and auditability.

  2. Scalable and Tailorable Framework - Whether you're a small tech startup or a large infrastructure agency, PRINCE2 can be scaled to match the complexity of your projects. You can tailor PRINCE2 to integrate with Agile, Scrum, or local compliance requirements—making it a flexible choice for hybrid environments.

  3. Improved Project Outcomes - PRINCE2 courses promote disciplined planning, regular review cycles, and effective risk management, thereby reducing project overruns and failures. With defined communication channels and roles, stakeholder expectations are better managed throughout the project lifecycle.

  4. Global Best Practice Recognition - PRINCE2 is recognised globally, including in the Philippines. This allows local organisations working with overseas partners or clients to benefit from using a familiar and respected methodology. PRINCE2 certification enhances the employability of local professionals globally and attracts international talent locally.

  5. Supports Professional Development and Talent Retention - Offering PRINCE2 training can help retain talent by providing clear development pathways for project professionals. PRINCE2 training fosters a shared language and methodology across departments, thereby reducing miscommunication and enhancing productivity.

  6. Cost-Effective Risk Management - The method's structured checkpoint reviews and stage-based planning allow early detection of issues before they escalate. The focus on business justification helps ensure that only viable projects continue, conserving time and funding.

No, PRINCE2 certification courses are not equivalent to a degree. The PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE2 Practitioner certifications are professional qualifications that are widely recognised and respected in the field of project management. However, they are not the same as a Bachelor's or postgraduate degree from a college or university.
